Eddie Bauer Jr. Screenplay Gala Benefits NCCS
Van Shotwell

On Friday, July 27, 2012, 'Eddie Bauer Jr. Entertainment, LLC' hosted the first Screenplay Competition Gala at Hearthstone Country Club. Filled with many of Houston’s film industry professionals, the Gala had a packed house. With an attendance of over 80, the Gala was emceed by Roxanne Rox of 'Nashrox Entertainment.' Eddie Bauer Jr. and Norman Ray Fitts presented five awards to the five finalists who were in attendance: Alan Ames, Carlos Perez, Miriam Esther Goldman and Nathan Goldman.

Although the Gala had some glitches, the overall feeling was one of support and excitement for the possibilities to come. Eddie gave a very moving speech of why he chose the National Children’s Cancer Society as the benefitting organization. He also showed great appreciation to the sponsors, Home Theatre Gear and Sprinkler Warehouse.

Norman then took to the podium and explained how he read over 186 screenplays and by using a technical point critiquing system, he narrowed down to the top 10 features and top 10 shorts. "There were actually 12 top feature screenplays, because based on my overall scoring system there were two scripts that tied and to be fair they were included in the winner’s circle,” said Norman.

In the end, the Gala presented $400 to the NCCS. "I would’ve liked for it to be more, but for our first competition and Gala, I think we did pretty well. Next year will definitely be better,” said Eddie.

Eddie is not speaking too soon; this year’s sponsors announced at the Gala that they will support next year’s event. So writers get to writing and prepare for another amazing Screenplay Competition in 2013.

The 2012 Screenplay Competition and Gala would like to thank all of the wonderful supporters who contributed their time, creativity, donations for the silent auction, donation of the flat screen TV, and attendance at the event in support of the NCCS and the film industry.
